When Family Comes To Visit: Five

I know, I know…  I’ve suddenly become a photography blog.  Not to fret.  Once family leaves, and things return to normal, I’ll get back to the stuff that’s made my blog so world famous.

But, for now, it’s photos, since I’ve not got much time to sit and write (and, quite frankly, my brain was whacked around — literally — so, it’s not been thinking too clearly the past few days, though it is healing nicely.)

I’m behind on my replies to reader comments, behind on my blog reading, and behind on commenting on your blogs, but, I promise, I will get to that next week.

__________

We made a trip down to Colorado Springs, the day after the fire started (and, we’d left early in the day, so hadn’t caught the news.)  The smoke was heavy, and we could see it from miles and miles away.  The closer we got, the more we were able to smell the smoke.   The fire didn’t erupt into an inferno until 48 hours after we were there. The fires here have been horrific, and, the devastation has been heartbreaking to see.  Send thoughts and prayers, in whatever way you do such things, to those who lost homes and land in the fires, and for the brave firefighters from across the nation who are here, trying to contain the blazes.

Our trip to the Springs was unplanned, and, it was more the Air Force Academy that we were visiting.  We arrived late, and, had only a few minutes to look around.  I’ve not got much to share from here, except for the following 3 images:

When Family Comes To Visit: Four

Here are a couple more images from Castlewood State Park.

The final image is of mom (can’t have family vacation photos without including mom, right?!)  Everyone wanted a photo of her, so she was joking about being a celebrity.  She rolled her eyes when I showed her the photo, but, I think it’s rather endearing.

When Family Comes To Visit: Three

After our visit to the Eastern Plains of Colorado, and the stop at the barren site, we moved southwest word, towards Colorado Springs (the day the fire started, though, we were unaware of the fire as we headed in that direction, until we noticed the smoke billowing up from behind a hill).  Our destination was the Air Force Acadamey, which is located just a few miles north of The Springs,  On our way, we stopped at Castlewood Canyon State Park.
